Dear Publisher
The summer’s coming to an unofficial end in the next week or so, and I must admit it’s bittersweet. On one hand, we have the end of summer Fridays, but on the other, it’s the beginning of football season; the shift away from summer reading will, before we know it, bring on holiday reading; and while the restful and lazy summer days and nights at home are coming to an end, the exciting new fall tradeshow—and with that, the traveling—season will begin.
In fact, for me, traveling season begins Saturday when I’ll be sitting impatiently on the 13-plus hour flight to Beijing. The things I do for books! As it hasn’t happened yet, I have nothing to report on for the 2009 Beijing International Book Fair, however, I do have plenty to say on some other things. Read below for the reveal of the 2010 CBE schedule, a few PubMatch updates, and something we’re particularly proud to be a part of, taking place in October right in NYC.
Until next time, happy end of summer, and Happy Reading!

We at Combined Book Exhibit have recently announced our 2010 schedule, bringing you 24 unique marketing opportunities on the regional, national and international level. The 2010 schedule features 14 state/regional venues, four national venues, and six international venues (which include New Title Showcases at the London Book Fair and Bookexpo America). Some notable highlights in addition to the shows CBE attends annual are:
The New Delhi World Book Fair: The largest book fair in the third largest consumer of English-Language materials happens only once every two years. This is Combined Book Exhibit’s first time attending the fair (more on New Delhi below).
Louisiana Library Association: One of the shows that unfortunately got cut from the Combined Book Exhibit schedule many, many years ago, when CBE decided to downsize the shows. It is however, the highest rated library venue in the Gulf Coast, and Combined Book Exhibit is excited to return!
Public Library Association: On alternating years, The American Library Association holds trade shows for some of its more targeted subsidiaries. This year—and every even year—plays host to the Public Library Association, which is one of the largest and liveliest.
The above, as well as the remaining 21 shows can be read about in further detail from here, by clicking on the show you’re interested in. Registration for all shows except Bookexpo America and London Book Fair New Title Showcases can be found here.

The New York Center for Independent Publishing, or NYCIP, has been one of the strongest voices in independent publishing since its first inception as The Small Press Center in 1984. As such, it’s a natural place for Combined Book Exhibit to try and make a presence, as we did last December at NYCIP’s Small and Independent Press Book Fair.
NYCIP is constantly trying to provide up-to-date and relevant programming for its members and the community it serves. As the publishing industry moves more digital in how books are consumed and made, and new arenas for marketing, networking and business, NYCIP sees an opportunity to try to help. Which is why October 2nd, NYCIP will be hosting a program called “The Next Chapter in Publishing,” which they describe as, “an intensive one-day conference designed to meet the needs of independent publishers and writers by exploring the changing technologies of the publishing industry.”
The full day seminar will host panels of speakers from different aspects of the changing technologies, from social networking to e-books to digital copyright and more. Combined Book Exhibit and PubMatch are proud to be sponsoring the event.
More details on the seminar, including registration information, can be found here.
