Dear Publisher
February was a busy month up here in the Northeast, with Toy Fair, New York Comic Con, and the preparations for what’s up in March (Bologna, Texas Library), and April (London), it feels like we didn’t get a minute to sit down and relax. That, of course is a good thing—but will certainly be better once the nicer weather comes. So, in preparation for the nice weather, I’ve looked all the way to the summer, and some stuff that’s going on during them, which you can read about below. Also, with so much to say, I did have to throw in just some quick notes at the bottom.
Not to take away from the importance of what’s below, but next month, I’ll be coming to you with a HUGE announcement—something that’s been cooking behind the scenes hear for nearly half a year. I don’t mean to tease too much…
Also, just need to apologize for not getting the first part of the "Women of International Publishing" series in this issue, but I promise that when the launch comes, it'll be worth the wait!
As always, your resources at www.combinedbook.com, The Book Checkout, and Comblogged Book Exhibit are at your disposal.
Happy almost Spring, and Happy Reading!

The recent announcement that BookExpo America will remain in New York for the foreseeable future—or at least the next four years—was met with mixed reviews. Ultimately, while there were many vocal retractors, it seems as though much of what BookExpo is trying to represent as the premier North American venue for launching, promoting, and finding new books, would benefit most from being in New York. If New York is the unquestioned publishing and media capitol of the world, it’s hard to argue that it’s pretty close to being that for lots of industries, including food. Which is why it’s the perfect place for BookExpo America to launch “Cookbook Expo.”
Cookbook Expo will make its debut this year at BEA, and will be located adjacent to The New Title Showcase in the Crystal Palace lobby of the Jacob K. Javits Center. It will feature an exhibit of cookbooks and food-related titles, as well as demonstrations and book signings from a number of great chefs!
Registration is as simple as entering the New Title Showcase. Simply click here to get started! If you’re interested in participating as a chef, or learning more about opportunities associated with Cookbook Expo, email Rich Askintowicz.

| Children's Books for 1 Billion... |

One of the best ways to sell books (or any product, really) is to have it available to the most people possible. With over 1 billion citizens, China offers one of the largest markets on Earth. And lucky for all of us, the organizers of the Beijing International Book Fair have taken a particular interest in children’s books.
As we announced earlier, we at Combined Book Exhibit are happy to be working again with the Beijing International Book Fair, as well as The American Collective Stand, The Association of Educational Publishers, and UK Publishing—a partnership of the London Book Fair and the Publishers Association—in the mounting of the second International Children’s Publishing Exhibit!
This year’s exhibit will be located right next to the Country of Honor Display at the fair in order to drive even more traffic. And, as an official exhibit of the fair, extra advertising to drive traffic will be onsite.

BookExpo America isn’t the only place to see some great food titles and cooking demonstrations: Don’t forget about “What’s Cooking @ ALA” at ALA Annual in Chicago. Learn more at www.TheBookCheckout.com/ALACookbookExhibit
As you may have heard, BookExpo Canada’s parent company Reed Exhibitions has cancelled the 2009 edition of the show. Along with that comes the cancellation of the 2009 BookExpo Canada New Title Showcase (and ONLY the BookExpo Canada NTS—all others are going on as planned). If you’ve registered to participate in the 2009 New Title Showcase at BookExpo Canada, contact your show representative for your options.
Remember, it’s only the BookExpo Canada New Title Showcase that’s cancelled. London Book Fair and BookExpo America New Title Showcases are still on as planned, and registration is still available! Go to www.NewTitleShowcase.com to learn more. There are only a few weeks until the deadline for London, so head over now!
As we learned late last year, a recession is a great time to establish your brand by increasing your marketing efforts. Take advantage of our services for cost-effective targeted marketing, and register to be a part of any of our upcoming shows simply by clicking here!
