CBE offers book promotion opportunities in several key areas. Welcome to The Combined Book Exhibit® (CBE). From the first bookmobile to award winning displays, CBE has, for over 70years, put publishers' products in the hands of customers in the library, bookseller and school/university markets. CBE offers book promotion opportunities in several key areas. We promote books to libraries, schools, educational institutions and also at academic conferences. Libraries need publishers of all kinds of media. And publishers need libraries--but some don't yet realize how much. There are over 117,000 public, school, and college/university libraries in the United States, creating a market of over $5 billion. Libraries also boost sales because of the marketing they provide. National library conferences offer size and diversitymore libraries are represented from the U.S. and abroad, including those from often-neglected areasall resulting in more traffic at the conferences. Target markets can also be reached because of subject specialized libraries attending. STATE & REGIONAL LIBRARY CONFERENCES In a comprehensive marketing strategy, state and regional conferences are the complement to the national meetings. Though there are generally fewer attendees at this level, librarians with acquisition authority usually attend these shows as apposed to the national shows. With fewer titles to see and not as many exhibits to visit, each receives more attention. CBE, with its comfortable setting and varied collection, is the most popular exhibit, attracting regulars to the display each year. SCHOOL LIBRARY/EDUCATION/ACADEMIC CONFERENCES School libraries constitute one of the fastest growing markets in publishing, with sales increasing from $423 to $647 million. And academic conferences are where publishers can meet the decision makers in the college and university markets. Attendees at these conferences include librarians, teachers, education media specialists and reading specialists, both regular and remedial. There are the people publishers want to meet--people with acquisition authority in their institutions. At The Book Standards Summit in 2005, it was noted that new titles make up almost 90% of all book sales. When CBE teams up with BookExpo America and The London Book Fair to present the New Title Showcase, it is a chance to market directly to those buyers you want to reach, at two of the largest book showcases in the world. BOOKSELLER/TRADE & INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES Book sales thrive even when the rest of the economy doesn't: during the recession of the early '90's, book sales outpaced the growth of total retail by 8.6%. Book sales exceed $23 billion, selling more than DVDs ($14.8 billion) and CDs ($666 million) combined! The bookseller conferences we attend offer the same diversity that our library shows do. Aside from the New Title Showcase at BookExpo America and the London Book Fair, CBE also has panel displays, giving space to view books alone or in a group, with the space to conduct a discussion. CBE also has regular showcases in Frankfurt and Beijing, proving that it is a staple not only at the biggest American bookseller show, but also in major overseas venues as well.
